One in a Million

Ever wondered how "one in a million" looks like? Maybe you wanna search a red dot among 999.999 gray ones with my generator. I use Anvil, a rapid development platform that only requires Python code, for my projects. Create your own grids and get some assistance—or even the solution—if you find yourself searching through more than 150 points.

Talk to a Chatbot about your own documents

My latest article on Medium explores building Retrieval-Augmented Generation Systems (also known as Question-Answering Chatbots) using your own data. I used documents from radiation therapy and was impressed by the quality of the responses, the accuracy of references (something I find lacking in ChatGPT), and even some unintended humor.

March 14th

Before May the 4th, winter has to end. Mathematicians and other enthusiasts celebrate March 14th with pie (not cake). This delicious pie was baked by my older daughter and divided into perfect twelfths. 😋

Ever had an alpaca on the leash?

Hiking with an alpaca is a unique and delightful experience! We took a tour near Cologne in the "Bergisches Land." Alpacas are gentle (if the chemistry is right), curious, and fluffy animals, making them great companions for a hike. Just don’t expect them to carry your bags.

AAPM 2023

Risk analysis methods have been used for decades to improve patient safety in radiation therapy. The Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodology currently relies on observations by human experts. Data science and artificial intelligence can enhance these processes, further improving patient safety.

Working with passion

From childhood on, I was fascinated by nature and technology, so I started to explore the
world around me, focusing on physics, biology, and chemistry. Getting older, my interests branched off also into math and computers. Attending the Kerschensteiner Kolleg in Munich finally sealed my way into science.
At university, I deepened my physics knowledge and discovered my love for biophysics, becoming a medical physicist afterward (although having an affair with material science). I also experienced the power of collaborations and took the lead in several teams.
Physics and programming still play a significant role in my daily professional life: optimizing irradiation, analyzing treatments, and evaluating data patterns. I passionately want to save lives by serving patients myself or empowering others to do so.

My career in a nutshell:
Since 2019 Medical Physicist and Project Manager at OTC Cologne
2009-2018 Technical Lead Medical Physics, Medical Device Consultant, Product Owner for Motion Mitigation, OIS/TPS, and Dosimetry
2004-2008 Medical Physicist at Paracelsus Hospital Osnabrück
1998-2003 PhD in Physics at University of Osnabrück and Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials
1992-1998 Studies in Physics at University of Osnabrück

Painting with light

At the end of last millennium, I lived next to a photographer. He taught me some basics about light and golden section, but he detested my non-professional approach to take many pictures and delete the bad ones. I am still not an artist in his view, but if you can stand that blemish, you may find here some files I spared from the digital dustbin...

It’s not good for the man to be alone...

Genesis 2:18 states a great idea, so here we are, six of us. While the fight against cancer motivates me and photography expresses my creativity, I feel home with my loved wife and children.
And sometimes we can express creativity together, like when we published our first iBook Hoppel, Müffel und die Aromamöhrchen in 2015 (only available in German).
I have also a spiritual family at KfO, the church of Oberberg (Kirche für Oberberg).
